About The Stacks

Welcome to The Stacks, a blog for writing on unconventional games and software, their surrounding material, and the ongoing process of documenting history.

The Stacks aim to cover media outside the zeitgeist, especially those other writers and researchers simply won't touch. Whether it's an obtuse indie game, an unsavoury piece of erotic software, or a white whale of a magazine, these media deserve to be covered and acknowledged as part of the vast tapestry of history.

The Stacks were born from the lessons learned in constructing queer histories. With how fragile information is, it is imperative to shine light on all aspects of human experience, not just the big names and ideas. To ignore our history is to ignore our humanity.

The Stacks are an acknowledgement of context. Nothing exists independent of anything else. Everything has a purpose.

The Stacks are a project by Joey Wawzonek. They are a non-binary queer historian, archivist, and library information student from Western Canada. They became interested in preserving queer material during their undergraduate studies, and have since found their niche in erotic ephemera and coin-op trade industry publications. They work predominantly with Gaming Alexandria to digitise print materials covering a wide range of entertainment topics. They produce videos on their YouTube channel, and release music under the alias Detchibe.
